Google Guaranteed Is Now Google Verified: What Changed for Local Services Ads

Google renamed the Guaranteed badge to Google Verified in October 2025 and has kept tightening how Local Services Ads rank and bill. Here's what a home-service business needs to know in 2026.

If your Local Services Ads listing used to say "Google Guaranteed" and now says "Google Verified," nothing broke. In October 2025 Google renamed the badge across the program. The verification behind it, background check, license, and insurance, is the same, and the consumer protection on eligible jobs still applies. What has changed more meaningfully is how the ads rank and how leads are billed.

What the badge means to a customer

The green checkmark is the strongest trust signal on the results page. It says Google checked your license and insurance and stands behind the work. In categories where the alternative is a national brand or an unlicensed handyman, that badge is the difference between a call and a scroll.

How Local Services Ads rank in 2026

  • Reviews and rating. Count, recency, and average. Fifty-plus reviews at 4.8 or better is the practical threshold for holding a top-three spot in most markets.
  • Responsiveness. How fast and how often you answer. Missed calls and slow replies push you down, which is why automation that answers in seconds is also a ranking tool.
  • Proximity. How close you are to the searcher, and whether your service area is set honestly.
  • Profile completeness and budget. Categories, hours, photos, and a budget that doesn't run out by noon.
70–80%of Local Services Ads calls go to the top three listings. Below that, the badge is decoration.

Billing and disputes

You pay per lead, not per click, and you can dispute leads that are spam, out of area, or not a request for service. Google has expanded automated credits, but a weekly manual review still catches more. On one of our roofing accounts, 18 of 69 leads in a month were credited back; on a Winchester roofer's account, 7 of 38. That's 20 to 25% of the bill you don't owe if someone is checking.

Which businesses qualify

LSA started with home services and now covers most of them, plus many professional and automotive categories: lawyers in many practice areas, auto detailing, collision repair, and more. Captain Cole's Detailing generated 53 leads from $400 on LSA; Leonardtown Collision Center got 14 insurance leads from $300. If you're not sure your category is eligible in your market, that's the first thing we check in a growth audit.
